For most people travelling is a grat hobby. Every summer you can see thousands of people waiting as bus or railway stations or at airports for the means of transport that will take them to place of their summer holiday. If you have to travel somewhere, either for plasure or on business, either for short or long distances, the dirst thing you should do is decide how to get your destination. You may travel by land, by air or by sea. If you travel by land, you should consider one of these: going on foot(walking), riding a bike or a motorcycle, going by bus or by car, travelling by coach. They all have advantages and disadvantages.
Travelling by train
was quite common in the past, but with the rapid development of the car
industry it became partly neglected, today it is becoming more popular
because it offers a combination of speed, comfort and pleasure.
For children, who are used to travelling by car, going somewhere by
train is always an interesting and special experience. Trein tickets
are not very expensive and can be booked in advance. If you travel at
night you can even sleep in a sleeper. If you are hungry, aou may
have a meal in a dining-car. Sitting at the window and
watching the beautiful countryside during the day is something you will
remember, ven as an adult passenger on a train. Railway stations
are usually big, noisy and overcrowded places where you find several
ticked offices, large departure and arrival boards, two or more waiting
rooms, several telephone boxes, a left luggage office,
a restaurant or a snackbar, and toilets, of course. You can
buy newspapers and magazines at a bookstall.
Going by
plane is said to be the fastest, the most expensice, and even the
safest way to travel according to statistics. It is covenient,
especially over long distances. If you want to fly, you have to book
a seat on a plane long before the day of your departure.
Airports are lage, busy and well-organized places. On the day of your
departure you have to chek-in, go througr passport and security
checks, and customs. Then you wait to board your plane at
a departure gate. You are always offered some refreshments when
you travel by plane.
The most common way of travelling
today is going by car. If you have got a car you are independent,
you do not have to follow any timetable, you may travel at car parks,
modern petrol stations and restaurants, with toilets and showers where
you can have a rest. If you feel tired, you can sleep in
a motel and continue your journey on the following day.
Lost of opeople have to travel short distances every day, they commute
to work or school. For these people travelling might be a tiring
and unpleasant duty. If you live in a big city which has got an
underground, you don´t have to spend a lot of time commuting to
work. The underground trains usually go every five minutes, the rates
are quite low and you can get to work or shool quickly, even durin rush
hours. If there is no tube and you have to go by bus or tram, traffic
jams, overcrowded buses and noise can make your life difficult.
